In my mind, there is nothing more lovely to own or to give than something beautiful that has been made by hand.  While I have known David as a colleague and friend for many years - I first saw his work when a mutual friend retired and received a piece of Dave's work as a gift.  I started a personal tradition of giving his handcrafted bowls to friends and colleagues as a one-of-a-kind wedding gift that could be used and cherished for a lifetime. To date, I have given eight bowls to eight happy couples. Dave signs each piece and suggested inscribing names and dates, a lovely touch which makes each one even more special.  You can imagine my delight when several years ago, my husband surprised me with a spalted maple bowl specially inscribed for my birthday.  Now I have one of David's magnificent pieces of my own!

David Lyon's salad bowls combine function with art. His spalted maple bowl that we bought for ourselves is admired as a buffet decoration as well as when it is used in dinner parties. We have already purchased six of his salad bowls of different shapes and woods for family members and wedding gifts, and consider these unique bowls as ideal presents. We also have a wooden platter and two small wooden decorative items of David's that we value. Because of the craftsmanship and artistic flair that he displays in all his work, we highly recommend his pieces to anyone wishing to acquire a beautiful memento that will last a lifetime.

David Lyon is a superb artist and craftsman. Over the years, he has made for us a number of wonderful bowls and platters, many of which were created from the wood of a fallen tree (spalted maple) on our own property. These items are in constant use in our own house and in the homes of friends and relatives, where they are treasured for their superior quality and sentimental value.  Many thanks, David!

With David’s expert and avid guidance I have been able to discover the joy of turning seemingly lifeless lumps of wood into dynamic works of craft – both practical (such as bowls and platters) and artistic (such as centerpieces and objets d’arts). The woodturning process involves the creative joy of using multiple senses (sight, touch, smell) and never ceases to delight and gratify.

You’ll find David’s workshops are relaxed and enjoyable regardless of your level of expertise – from novice to artisan. You’ll also discover that woodturning can easily become a very addictive pleasure.

We have been delighted to acquire and gift unique quality turned wood from David Lyon, which is used by us and our friends in England and Australia. We have come back to reorder from him several times. David, you will be delighted to know that your Beech bowl sent to Victoria has been a smashing success and is in good use in a large family.
